Together, we are building a present and future of joy and freedom, moving with our grief, growing power for equity, and reimagining wealth as an abundant, collective resource that nourishes restorative and liberating pathways.
We do this amidst an intense equity backlash that includes a dramatic rollback on funding for it, except for a relatively few funders including the Borealis Racial Equity to Accelerate Change (REACH) fund. The REACH fund, which funds our racial equity work, is powerfully supporting efforts to advance liberatory practice in movement spaces. This month, we lift up REACH’s new report, “Meeting the Moment, Keeping the Momentum,” which shares the experiences and insights of racial equity practitioners, offering guidance for fostering equitable cultures and practices within movements.
The report highlights a partnership between Change Elemental and the Women’s Democracy Lab (WDL)—the Future Presidents Project, a fellowship for women elected officials with racialized identities. This program focuses on cultivating and sharing power, decolonizing political service, and providing holistic support. One participant shared, “I’ve never been to a training like this. I think I learned more about how to lead for equity in the last two or three days by developing myself and healing my own stuff than I ever have.”
The depth of this work—work like WDL and the other case studies in the report, and the critical frameworks and practices that inform them—requires the philanthropic field to embrace and sustain equity efforts. Borealis’ REACH fund has been a shining example of this commitment, and it is going to take all of us. With rigor and love, we can collectively heal and conjure our desired future.
We invite you to dive into the report and celebrate the fruits of our movements!
