Published in the Nonprofit Quarterly, Doing More with More: Putting Shared Leadership into Practice, describes the experience of 27 social justice organizations who experimented with how to share leadership beyond an executive director to other staff. While the shape of it looked different at each organization, they all learned how to adapt and flex across a spectrum of shared leadership. They found that there are clear and not-too-difficult steps that can be taken to reduce stress on the executive director and provide opportunities for staff initiative.
